Kenneth Nelan:

I openly agree with the notion that far too many people are literally "hiding behind the Amendment" certainly when such involves speech and religion.

In my humble opinion it is precisely these actions where people and/or the special interest groups sue and then we end up with judges actually legislating from the bench; which is nowhere to be found in their job descriptions; moreover, they are not qualified to do so.

Yet, the real travesty is in the case that becomes the "precedent." Hey, if you'd like to see far more detailed analysis of this kind of writing I invite you to "The Thinker" on WordPress. That is the primary site and we've gotten far to involved in The Daily Post to be able to put matters completely together. Just thought I'd let you know.

Kindest Regards,

Thanks much Jon-Paul,

In the case of Roundy's, they did simply say, "we dno't want your paper in our store." It was that simple. No explanation was given and then all hell broke loose with people riding high on the drama-llama.
I'm the first person to say it wasn't right and that Roundy's was reacting to an article, but as much as I don't like their reaction, IT IS THEIR RIGHT TO REMOVE THE PAPER FROM THEIR STORE.

I abhor what Westboro is doing. I think it's abominable and completely unchristian-like, but when we silence one group because we don't like what they are saying, we open a horrible precedence which allows for everyone to be silenced. Equal is equal regardless of whether we like it or not. As much at they have a right to their freedom of speech, so too am I allowed to speak out against such an atrocity, BUT I will do so with civility, honor, ethics, and with justice in mind.

A worthy article indeed! American's and quite a few immigrants are carrying their "Rights" issues far beyond what is civil or even welcomed. Jack N. Rakove, an immenient constitutional scholar in his book "Original Meanings" dedicates an entire chapter to what he and others refer to as "Rights talk." Freedom of speech issues often over-look the press and censurship. As for us over at American Age we believe that the courts and government have taken speech completely out of context and in liberal fashion there are no rules.

Recent cases such as demonstrators at military burials chanting their freedom of speech including volgarity, gutter language, have completely lost all civility insofar as the dead soldier's family is who these people are attacking at a very vulnerable moment.

In the case you bring it is quite evident that the participants do not see the correlation of reason(s) to issue which in the short term will fall into a huge discrimination case. If Roundy's didn't want the Shepard Express in it's facilities they should have just stated "we don't want it" period.

Because they endorsed a person with whom Roundy's didn't care for...then and only then it became a free speech issue. Believe me I do not advocate anything of this sort, it's childish. However, in retaliation folks from the Shepard Express are allowed to express their discontent with anything. When it comes to disagreeing with a policy or a constitutional right I feel firmly that it is our own government's responsibility to step in, as it is now. Boycotting a business is ugly and uncalled for -- as is boycotting goods and services from one state to another as recently as US v Arizona.

Thanks for your mention of our site and hopefully with your permission (coming in an email) we be honored to have your article added to our collection. Thank you again and nice writing!

Yes, but by not listening to them and ignoring them when they attempt to bully me, I in turn take back my own personal power. If I do not let a bully overpower me, then I take away their power over me – so yes, it does do something. If I see someone being bullied, I will of course help that individual by empowering them, not by giving any attention what-so-ever to the bully. I will render them essentially powerless.

So yes, by ignoring the bully it does achieve something far greater than if I were to stoop to the level of the bully and become like them. That’s why we have “peace” officers and the likes.

To those being bullied, do not, I repeat do not stoop to their level and lash out against those who are causing you harm – it only causes more harm. Fighting fire with fire essentially burns down your entire village, then you must rebuild, but with what – you also burned down the forest. Instead take back your personal power and ignore the bullies. Give them no heed and pay them no attention. That is the very thing they seek – attention. They thrive on it. They exist within it. If the bullying is such that it causes physical pain or violates privacy then go to the authorities, seek the advice of an attorney, or go to another trusted adult or official and have them deal with the bully, but take back your own power and realize you are a far better person than the bully!
